Today's (Day 2) topic is brought to us by LaPlates, Lets Go Strolling
and Natitys Design and is all about Traditions.
THANKSGIVING: We don't really have any consistent traditions on Turkey day. Just to eat, and eat A LOT! We always have a big turkey with all the fixin's. This year we are going to my IL's in Alabama, and I cannot wait. They have fantastic everyday food, so I'm stoked about Thanksgiving dinner! The one thing we almost always do on Thanksgiving is put up the tree. while listening to holiday music and/or watching a holiday movie. That was something we did when I was growing up. You cannot have Thanksgiving without the Macy's Day Parade!!!
CHRISTMAS EVE: As a kid every Christmas Eve my brother and I would get to open 1 gift and then lay in my parents' bed and watch A Christmas Carol with Alistar Sims. Now that I'm grown I still have to watch that movie (usually while wrapping gifts at the last minute). It's not Christmas without it. We still open 1 gift on Christmas Eve but it's holiday pajamas. I try to get the kids matching so that Xmas morning they can wake up looking so cute.
CHRISTMAS MORNING: When I was a kid my brother and I could wake up and open the gifts in our stocking while my parents slept. We had to wait for them to wake up to open any gifts under the tree. Oh the anticipation would drive me crazy. So did all the walnuts and oranges Santa left in my stocking!!! Christmas mornings now are EARLY! We wake up with the kids, race to the tree and rip open those gifts. After we have a big breakfast and spend the rest of the day watching holiday movies and playing with our new treasures.
NEW YEARS EVE: I think I've been pregnant almost every NYE for the past 5 years, LMAO! Rich and I usually sit at home together snuggled on the sofa, watching NYE in NYC and sipping sparkling wine.

I was pregnant last new year so this year I'm making sure to be in NY so I can leave the kids with my parents and get tanked. I hope there's something fun happening in Syracuse (doubtful) Here's My Day 2! I have Mr. Linky up, so leave your link!
Preggo every NYE huh? ;) Gotta do something to get warm when it starts getting cold! Hee hee.
The couch is the safest place for NYE. I'll be pregnant for it this year as well. lol
I try to get the kids matching pajamas too!
That's my kind of NYE...not preggo...but snuggling on the couch!!
Sounds like great traditions!
Thanks for visiting my blog!
I'm so glad our Christmas morning has never been too early. I have a feeling that may change this year though.
Sounds like you have some great childhood memories. My parents always put oranges in my stocking too, but I was not amused. Whats up with that?
Now there's a thought! Not preggers. Not nursing. Sister and BIL possibly coming for New Years - could it be? Could I really leave the house this year?
I love your traditions! I think I'm going to start getting my boys matching jammies for christmas as well. I'm sure it looks great in all of the pics from Christmas morning.
You have a beautiful family. Thanks for sharing!
Isn't the anticipation truly part of the fun? :)
I am surprised how many people have the same tradition of opening matching jammies on Christmas Eve. So neat!
My first NYE being 21 was very much anticipated....and I ended up being pregnant. Last year my fiance (now hubby), my son , my sister and I all went to a friend of mines and shot fireworks and spent the night with my friends. I am very glad that I did as in February one of our friends we had been celebrating with shot himself. IT was the last time we were all together as a group.
We always got an orange too. Oranges and nuts.
Great traditions!
I am a late wrapper too! Funny thing is I always feel like I am ahead until Chrsitmas Eve and I realize I had myself fooled, lol!
LOL...I remember the walnuts!!
Great traditions!
Your traditions sound a lot like ours, except I've always wanted to do the PJ's thing!
Last year while we watched the Macy's parade on TV, we threw candy to my girls. They still believe it came from the TV. A new tradition was born!
I want to get the kids' matching jammies this year too! Loved reading about your traditions!
I've been pregnant the past two christmases, I just don't know what to do with myself this year
We do the matching PJs, too!
We open a present on christmas eve too.
I love A Christmas Carol too!
I try to match all the girls Pjs too!
I used to be allowed to open 1 present Christmas Eve too. I want to do this with our kids, but my husband won't let me. It drives him nuts because I let them open the boxes that come in from relatives as they arrive. The out of town boxes help curb the ants in their pants though.
LOL, my parents had a rule that we couldn't wake them up before 6am.
