ALOHA FRIDAY - GOING GREEN

Well it's that time of week again. Friday! Time for some re-lax-ation. I wasn't sure what the topic would be for today but as I started this post a story about a green gym came on. The gym is completely green. No not the color. It's environmentally friendly! So, where is my question.

What is something "green" you are doing?

Sadly we don't do much. We need to do more. We have recycle bins we don't use for anything but pizza boxes. Today is the day for change. I am going to look at everyone's responses and try to get some ideas. We have a programmable thermostat. Maybe I will bust out the book and learn how to program it. We do bath the boys together to conserve on water. Josslyn takes baths with mommy. My washer is an energy star washer. It only uses the necessary amount of water and energy to spin the water out. So yay...I guess I do some things. OK, not so short, but oh well.

One easy thing we do is use reusable canvas bags at the grocery store - I hate plastic bags and we have way too many still, but imagine how many we'd have if we weren't using these canvas bags, which I LOVE.

we use the reusable bags from walmart for grocery shopping. They way easier to carry too when you have kids because you can put the strap over your shoulder, plus they hold way more so you only have like 5 bags instead of a million.

I actually plan on using the Target ones as gift bags for Xmas this year. They're cheap, cute AND reusable!

I can't say I am the best at this either. I have the programable furnace and it goes down a little at night and a lot during the day when we are noy home.
Check out Tiffany at http://mysouthernhippiemarriedmomoffourlife.blogspot.com/ she just recently posted a great list of home made cleaning products that are great.

We use lunch boxes and reusable water containers for school and work. We try to use containers for snacks/lunch rather than plastic bags. I am addicted to reusable grocery bags and seem to collect them. Mind you I use them for anything and everything. We have also switched almost all of our bulbs to the new spiral energy efficient and I wash clothing in cold water. In addition to this we keep our thermostat quite low in the winter saving energy in that way.

we use reuseable bags, recyle cans, bottles and newspapers. All are light bulbs are energy efficient, we wash with cold water, and of course an oldie but a goodie, turning the water off when brushing your teeth

Recyle plastic and aluminum. We have an island recycling program that picks up curbside! We walk rather than drive to school.
