Aloha Fridaaaaaaaaaaaay

Aloha Friday is brought to you by An Island Life. Head on over and join in!

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is a day to take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

Man I love me some Friday! Anyway, here we go with another fun filled edition of Aloha Friday!

What kind of camera do you have?

I have a Sony Cybershot which I love, and a Canon 5D DSLR which I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE! I'm sad that digital cameras weren't around when I was in school. I would have so many pictures to go with my high school memories.

Extreme Home Blog Makeover

I am thinking it's time for a new blog look. I've been researching great sites for the perfect templet. I'm going to miss my current one. I get tons of compliments on it almost daily. I just want something more professional looking and less cookie cutter cutesy. I might transfer this one over to my 365 blog because I just love it so much.

By-the-way, for those of you who love my blog layout you should check out Scrap Blog Designs by Hilary! She is amazing and super sweet. Always accommodating to me no matter what. Her blog layouts are awesome and her prices are unbeatable.

I am still in the process of layout hunting so if you know of a great site let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

Protect Your Wallet? Protect Yourself?

I am all for going green and protecting our environment, but what about protecting ourselves? Ever since these so called "Smart" cars have come out I can't help but wonder if people are thinking of their wallets over safety. It doesn't take a genius to see that these cars are not a smart idea at all. Sure they save you money on gas and help with global warming. You might as well just be driving a motorcycle because you are getting the same protection.

Yesterday, April 14th, 2009 the IIHS released the crash test ratings and video for 3 of the most common smart cars. It really didn't surprise me. There is just no way these cars can stand up to any sort of vehicle in any type of crash.

Laws of physics prevail: The Honda Fit, Smart Fortwo, and Toyota Yaris are good performers in the Institute's frontal offset barrier test, but all three are poor performers in the frontal collisions with midsize cars. These results reflect the laws of the physical universe, specifically principles related to force and distance.

Although the physics of frontal car crashes usually are described in terms of what happens to the vehicles, injuries depend on the forces that act on the occupants, and these forces are affected by two key physical factors. One is the weight of a crashing vehicle, which determines how much its velocity will change during impact. The greater the change, the greater the forces on the people inside and the higher the injury risk. The second factor is vehicle size, specifically the distance from the front of a vehicle to its occupant compartment. The longer this is, the lower the forces on the occupants.

Size and weight affect injury likelihood in all kinds of crashes. In a collision involving two vehicles that differ in size and weight, the people in the smaller, lighter vehicle will be at a disadvantage. The bigger, heavier vehicle will push the smaller, lighter one backward during the impact. This means there will be less force on the occupants of the heavier vehicle and more on the people in the lighter vehicle. Greater force means greater risk, so the likelihood of injury goes up in the smaller, lighter vehicle.

Crash statistics confirm this. The death rate in 1-3-year-old minicars in multiple-vehicle crashes during 2007 was almost twice as high as the rate in very large cars.

I just can't understand why anyone would want to be put in that sort of danger just to save a few dollars. If you want to help with the environment try getting a bigger hybrid car. They may not be AS environmentally friendly, but it's better than nothing.

In the video, the IIHS released, the Smartcar actually went airborne and did a 450 degree turn around. The entire front of the car was gone. Absolutely zero hope for survival in something like this if you were in a head on collision of any sort. Is it really worth it? Is it really a good idea, these cars? I am just not convinced. There is just no upside to owning one of these, in my opinion. Like I said, I'm all for going green, but not at my life's expense.

NEW! Yo Gabba Gabba: New Friends!

I don't know about your kids, but Yo Gabba Gabba is a HUGE hit with mine. I, myself, had never really sat down to watch it before until now. I would always listen and dance though. I have to admit, this show is really good. It gets your kids up and moving while teaching many of life's lessons at the same time. The music is so upbeat and the colors are are so bright and perfect for stimulation.

My son Jacob has always loved this show so we have several episodes on DVR. He's especially fond of the Wiggle Wiggle song. On April 7th, 2009 Nickelodeon released the newest edition to the Yo Gabba Gabba DVD family that now features everyones favorite funny guy, Jack Black. He is absolutely fantastic in the New Friends episode. The DVD showcases 4 all new episodes that are sure to get your little one up and moving. The songs are great and the lessons are educational. You just can't beat having those 2 combinations in 1. You will also see other familiar faces such as Rahzel, Sean Kingston, Biz Markie, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Cornelius, just to name a few.

What I loved most about the new Yo Gabba Gabba: New Friends...

  • Education: I am all about shows that educate my children. While I wish I could shelter my children away from television we all know in most cases that's not going to happen. So for me I prefer my children watching shows that teach them something. With themes focused on sharing and dealing with sadness it really is such a great show.
  • Music: There is nothing more aggravating than a kids show with horrible music. If I can't tolerate it then my children aren't watching it, LOL. With DJ Lance Rock you get upbeat tempos and words I wouldn't mind my children repeating. It is also opening my child's mind to all genres of music. Featuring original music for preschoolers in genres like New Wave, Hip Hop, and Pop.
  • Motivational: I don't want my children being couch potatoes. I want them to keep active even when watching TV. What I love about Yo Gabba Gabba is their ability to entice children to get up and move along with them. The dancing disguised exercise is something you can't help but to do yourself. Not that I would know, LOL.
This is definitely something I think everyone with children should own. It just has everything you could want in a show for your child. So go pick up this DVD and bring Muno, the red cyclops, Foofa the pink flower bubble, Brobee the green little one, Toodee the blue cat-dragon, and Plex the robot into your child's life!

Skin MD Natural SPF 15 Review

Living in sunny Florida wearing lotion and SPF is a definite must. Finding a combination of both, that doesn't make you smell like a tanning salon or a day at the beach is difficult. I just want a lotion with SPF I can wear on a daily basis. I need something to protect my skin but won't give away that I'm even wearing it. I need something that isn't going to go on greasy and make me feel sticky all day.

The people who came up with Skin MD Natural must be mind readers. This lotion does everything I need it to. It went on perfectly and you would never know that I had it on. There is no smell, and no greasy, sticky feeling. I was extremely pleased with this product.

If you've been looking for a skin care product that can heal dry skin and keep the ravages of time at bay, take a look at a breakthrough based on years of research by doctors and chemists - shielding lotion.

A Shielding Lotion is far more effective as a dry skin treatment than conventional moisturizing lotions or protective creams. If you suffer from dry skin, you know that just using a moisturizing lotion doesn't solve the problem. A shielding lotion does much more than just treat dry skin – it’s a new kind of skin care product that makes a real difference to all skin types.

Skin MD Natural™ is promptly absorbed, without the slightest hint of any greasy or oily feeling or residue, transforming the outer layer of skin into a hydrating invisible shield.

Glycerin has been the standard against which all humectants are measured. Until now no other humectant drew in as much moisture from the air as glycerin. But the proprietary formulation in Skin MD Natural has a moisturizing factor of at least 6 times greater than glycerin. Combined with its protective properties and natural ingredients, this makes Skin MD Natural a truly unique product. - Skin MD Natural

I was very pleased that I could also put this on my face under my makeup and it didn't make my face feel heavy. I would definitely purchase this product again.

Spring Break For Who Whom Who?

It's day two into Spring Break and I'm pretty much ready for school to start again. I just keep thinking about how looooooong summer vacation is going to be.

If I hear the word "mommy" one more time I may jump out the window!!! Now that I have 2 that know how to say "mommy" it's pretty much never ending.

The whining...oh the whining and the crying. Jacob is in this habit of running right to mommy and daddy if he doesn't get his way instead of working it out.

Josslyn is cutting teeth I think. It's been a super fun couple days. If she can't see me she's fussing. Separation anxiety at it's finest.

Justyn's best friend is moving today. He is so sad and constantly asking if he can call him. He tears up every time he talks about his friend moving. Breaks a mama's heart.

The ADT guy came too early this morning. Everyone was still sleeping. I say "was" because his incessant ringing of the doorbell woke everyone up. I asked him to come back after I got dressed and Josslyn woke up (since the thing he was fixing is in her room) he said no. So I was forced to reschedule.

We are supposed to be leaving tomorrow for Alabama. We still don't know if we are because my dear husband hasn't submitted his leave request yet. He's known for 2 weeks now. I have laundry and packing to do but I don't even know if we are going!?!

I need a vacation. I need a spring break. I need it quick!

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

They say that breaking up is hard to do...Now I know, I know that it's true...Don't say that this is the end...

OK, so not that kind of breaking up, but it seems as though my beautiful baby girl is done nursing, and that is breaking my heart. She has moved on to better things bottles. It breaks my heart that she doesn't need me anymore. I miss our moments together. This picture was taken in August 2008 when we had our family pictures done by the fabulous ShelbyLeigh before leaving Maryland. I am so proud of myself for making it this far. I have come a long way from the girl who thought breastfeeding was "disgusting" and "unnecessary". It wasn't until I read 101 Reasons To Breastfeed that I realized how necessary it really was. For not only for my child but me as well. I nursed Jacob until he was 10 months old. He quit on his own too. Of course I was pregnant with Josslyn at the time, and had a fever of 103.0 so it could have just been that. I was hoping to make it to a year, but I am thinking that is never going to happen. I still try to get her to nurse at least once a day but she just plays, rolls over, or turns her head. I guess baby girl has more important things to do. If only she knew how important to me it is that she nurses, LOL. I wish I could pump and give it to her in a bottle but I can't pump for crap anymore. When my babies are first born I can nurse them and still pump 6.5oz right after. Now I'm lucky to get 1 oz from both sides put together. When Jacob stopped nursing I wasn't as sad because I knew I would get to nurse the next baby. Since we are done having children I know that I will never again get to nurse. I am more sad about this than not having anymore children. At least with that I have grandbabies to look forward to. I can't nurse my grandchildren. Well I could but I won't because that's a little weird, even for me, LOL.

Farewell Fast Food

I know I've said it before, but this time I mean it. Lately I've been so depressed about the weight I've put on since having Josslyn. I realize now why I keep gaining. I eat fast food entirely too much. Last night the husband and I researched all our favorite menu items from places like McDonalds, Subway, and Taco Bell. In some cases I was consuming my daily recommended calorie intake, in just 1 sitting. I love the meatball sub from Subway, and that alone was 1100 calories. That was NOT including the cheese I have put on it or the cookie I eat after, LOL. Amazingly the least amount came from Taco Bell. I normally get 1 steak Gordita with pintos and cheese. That was about 500 calories total for the two. I am sick of growing, LOL. I'm almost 30. I should have stopped growing years ago. So starting today I'm eating better. I'm going to fight my lazy addiction and stop going to all these bad-for-me places. Aside from the calories it's just not good for me. I am getting older by the second and I have an unhealthy fear of dying young. It's about time I did something about it. I wonder what my cholesterol is, LOL? It's probably NOT pretty. I rarely ever drink water. I hate water. I drink diet soda like it's going out of style. Hey, I need something to keep me awake all day. I'm so not a coffee drinker. So wish me luck on my no fast food adventure.

Gotta Have It Too Tuesday Friday LittleMissMatched Review & Giveaway

Photobucket

I know I know it's late. Better late than never I always say. Yea, I don't say that, but it's true!

It's no secret I love to shop. One of the things I find myself doing is trying to get my friends and family to buy products that I have tried and love. So, my bloggy friends, you are no different. Every Tuesday I bring you a new product I have tried and love. These recommendations are based on my own experiences and opinions. Please don't hold me responsible if you get something I boast about and hate it. Not like that would ever happen anyway! ;-P

So I don't know about you, but in my house coordinating outfits isn't always easy. Yes, there are times my kids have crazy outfits on. Don't believe me? Check out Jacob's pajamas this morning.

Isn't that special? There was a time that would have driven me INSANE...of course that was 3 kids ago. Don't even get me started on the socks dilemma we have on a daily basis.

Luckily, for us, the fabulous people over at LittleMissMatched have come to the rescue. They have turned a fashion faux pas into a fabulous fashion trend! Now, mix-matching your kids' clothes is the thing to do.

Here is my darling little princess wearing the most adorable little miss matched coverall. The colors are so vibrant and fun. The material is thin yet warm. Living in Florida we keep our air conditioning low. Pretty close to the Antarctica setting. So I have to dress my children like it's winter when it comes to bed time. Josslyn's room is the coldest in the house. I am constantly worrying if she's too cold. Yet, I don't want her to become super hot and uncomfortable. This is just the perfect weight for her.

What I really love about this coverall is it's versitility. She can wear it to bed but can also wear it as an outfit in public. I get the best of both worlds. Making this outfit worth every penny and more! Is it a fashion no no to wear your pajamas in public? I guess I didn't get that memo, LOL.

As a mom of 3 I do a lot, A LOT, of my shopping online. Especially clothes shopping for my kids. One thing I am constantly worrying about is how does it run in regards to size? There is nothing more disappointing than getting an outfit in the mail and having to return it because it's too big or too small. I was very pleased when this outfit ran true. The one she is wearing is a 6-9 months and she is 9.5 months. It might be a tad snug on her, but she's 20lbs so...LOL! She likes to eat. The material is very flexible making it easy to play.

My first impressions of LittleMissMatched are fantastic. Anyone who knows me, knows I love shopping for kids' clothes. It's a crazy addiction I have that drives my husband batty. Having a girl has only made it worse. LittleMissMatched is definitely a place I will be returning to and recommending to my friends and family as well. I was given the chance to pick anything from the site to review and it was extremely difficult. EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING is fabulous. I just had to tell her to surprise me with anything because there isn't a thing I won't love. I firmly believe you, my bloggy friends, will feel the same!!!

I am definitely a night owl. I hate waking up in the morning. I would love to lay in bed for 30 minutes after waking up, but that rarely happens.

Today...

My oldest baby boy has turned 6 and is continuing to grow taller and wiser.

I woke up at 7 A.M. and my first thought was about baby Stellan and how Mckmama was doing today.

I took a shower before picking Justyn up from school, and that hardly ever happens.

I thought about my husband and got butterflies in my stomach.

I put make-up on. This rarely happens.

I'm wearing a shirt my husband doesn't love on me, but he loves me so that's ok.

I realized I have not done my Gotta Have It Too Tuesday and really I don't feel like it. So I probably won't do it.

Today we went to Carrabbas for Justyn's birthday. We haven't been there in over 7 months. It was good.

Today I played Spades. Sarah was my partner. We lost.

Today it was supposed to storm. It didn't. It's Florida.

Tonight I am tired. It is 10:30 and I should go to bed. I should, but I won't.
